Event Overview
The SPF 5K: Shield, Prevent, Fight is an event focused on promoting education about melanoma and raising funds for research. The event is held in partnership with the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF). Funds raised by participants aim to advance melanoma research and dermatologic education.
Event Format
The event offers a 5K distance. Participants can choose between an in person race or a virtual option.
The in person race is held at Walsingham Park Pavilion #7 in Largo, Florida. The course goes around the lake at Walsingham Park. A virtual option allows participants to complete a 5K run, jog, or walk at any location between specified dates.
Event Schedule & Details
The in person event date is Saturday, April 25, 2026. Check in is at 9:00 AM, and the race start is at 10:00 AM. The virtual event window runs from Saturday, April 18, 2026, to Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Following the in person race, there is an after race party with food, activities, and educational opportunities about melanoma. The event is family friendly and participants are invited to bring pets. Free skin cancer screenings are provided by dermatology residents from Bay Dermatology.
