Event Overview
The SPF: Shield, Prevent, Fight is a community event focused on promoting melanoma education and supporting dermatologic research. Organized in partnership with the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF), the event raises funds to advance the search for a cure and support clinical education. Participants have the option to join the event in person or participate virtually from any location.
Race Options
The event features a single main distance:
- 5K Run
The in-person course takes place at Walsingham Park in Seminole, Florida, where participants follow a route around the lake. For those choosing the virtual option, the distance can be completed at any location between April 18 and April 25, 2026. Virtual registration include a T-shirt and the ability to submit results online.
Additional Activities
The event includes several community-focused features beyond the race itself. An after-race party is held at the park with food and various activities. Dermatology residents from Bay Dermatology provide free skin cancer screenings on-site. The goal of these activities is to provide information on early detection strategies, such as the ABCDE method for checking skin spots. The park location is family and pet-friendly.
