About the race
The Southern States 200 is a point to point mountain trail event in Delta, Alabama, following the Pinhoti Trail from near Dalton, Georgia to the summit of Mt. Cheaha. The main course covers 202.41 miles with 27,933 feet of elevation gain. Organizers set a 100 hour cutoff for completion.
The course is fully marked using prismatic reflective flags, ribbons, and signs. On-course support includes 15 fully staffed aid stations that provide made-to-order hot food around the clock. Five staffed stations double as heated sleep stations with sleeping pads and bags in a dedicated tent. One additional unstaffed water only station is available.
Two 100-mile options are offered: a standard 100-mile start and a 100-mile Pacer Race in which pacing a 200-mile runner through the final 100 miles counts as an official 100-mile finish for the pacer. The finish area and lodging include arrangements at Bald Rock Lodge in Cheaha State Park, and a host hotel is identified in Dalton with shuttle service available for runners without crew.
Volunteer roles offer transferable credit toward future entries, including a specified credit per full volunteer day and potential complimentary entry for multiple days worked. The event is described by organizers as an endurance adventure with emphasis on personal challenge and mutual support rather than traditional race competition.
