Southern States 200
The Southern States 200 is a point to point mountain trail event that follows the Pinhoti Trail from near Dalton, Georgia to the summit of Mt. Cheaha in Alabama. The full course measures 202.41 miles and includes 27,933 feet of elevation gain. The course is fully marked with prismatic reflective flags, ribbons, and signs. Runners have 100 hours to complete the 200 mile course.
Support on course includes 15 fully staffed aid stations offering made-to-order hot food around the clock. Five staffed aid stations also operate as heated sleep stations with sleeping pads and bags in a dedicated tent. One additional unstaffed water only station is available.
There are two ways to participate in the 100 mile offering: a standard 100 mile entry that covers the full 100 mile course to Bald Rock, and a 100 Mile Pacer Race where a pacer covers the final 100 miles while pacing a 200 mile runner. Pacing miles can count as an official 100 mile finish and finishers receive a buckle. If a paced runner discontinues, a pacer may continue and still receive full credit for the 100 mile finish.
The event reserves lodging at Bald Rock Lodge with 12 individual rooms and lists the Fairfield Inn in Dalton as the host hotel with limited availability. Volunteer benefits include a $150 credit per full 12 hour day, transferable credits, and a complimentary entry after five full days volunteered. Refund and roll over rules apply with tiered deadlines. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
