Southend Half Marathon
The Southend Half Marathon is a coastal road race that takes place in Shoeburyness. Established three decades ago, the event follows a two-lap course along the scenic seafront, offering participants views across the Thames Estuary. The route is flat and entirely closed to traffic, making it suitable for those attempting the distance for the first time or seeking a fast performance.
The event consists of a single distance:
- Half Marathon
The race is open to participants aged 17 and over, and wheelchair athletes are also welcome to take part. The event serves as a significant fundraising platform for Havens Hospices, an Essex-based charity providing palliative and supportive care.
A dedicated runners' village is located at the East Beach start and finish area. This space includes a main stage with live music, food and drink stalls, and a meet-and-greet area for participants and spectators. On-site facilities include changing rooms and free parking at the East Beach Car Park. The venue is accessible by public transport, with the Shoeburyness train station located less than a five-minute walk from the start line.
Additional features of the event include the presence of pacers on the course and qualified sports therapists offering pre- and post-race treatments for a fee. All finishers receive a bespoke medal upon completion of the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
