South Shields 10 Mile 10th Anniversary
The South Shields 10 Mile is a coastal road and light trail race held in South Shields. The course is a marked out and back route running north along the coastline and The Leas, with start location at Souter Lighthouse and race headquarters at Whitburn Coastal Community Centre on the Souter Lighthouse site. The route is on mixed surfaces and is marshalled; runners are followed by a tail runner and there is no strict cut off.
The event is UKA licensed via the Trail Running Association and is organised by Run Eat Sleep - South Shields with support from local volunteers. All finishers receive a special 10th Anniversary South Shields 10 Mile 2026 medal; entry by 22 July guarantees a medal on race day, later entries may receive medals by post. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers.
Facilities include water and feed stations on course and at the finish, paper cups and a recommendation to bring a reusable bottle, toilets at Souter Lighthouse and on course near Marsden Grotto, and parking on the field north of Souter Lighthouse with a £3 charge unless displaying a National Trust card. Age limit for entry is 17 or older. Transfers are permitted until 30 July 2026. Entry windows run from 3 March 2026 to 31 July 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
