Sound The Siren 5K Run / Walk
The Sound The Siren event is a community athletics and outreach program held in South Orange. The event supports the South Orange Rescue Squad, a volunteer-led nonprofit organization that provides emergency medical services to South Orange, Maplewood, and surrounding areas. This organization operates as a charitable entity funded by community contributions without taxpayer support.
Participants can choose from multiple movement options:
- 5K Run/Walk: A USATF certified course measuring 3.1 miles.
- Walking Route: An optional shorter path of 1.3 miles.
- Kids Fun Run: A dedicated run for children offered at no cost.
Following the athletic events, the organization hosts an EMS Community Open House at their headquarters on Sloan Street. This portion of the day allows both adults and children to tour ambulances and view professional medical equipment. Attendees can learn about the operations of emergency medical services within the local community. Food and beverages are provided to participants during the gathering.
The course for the 5K is officially certified by USATF, ensuring a standard racing distance for those tracking performance. All proceeds from the registration fees are directed toward maintaining free emergency medical services for the local residency. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
