About the race
SOME's 25th Annual Trot for Hunger takes place on Thanksgiving Day at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC (1325 Pennsylvania Ave NW, 20004). The event combines timed in-person races, a family-friendly finisher festival, a pet costume contest, and a virtual option held throughout November.
In-person race offerings include:
- 5K
- Little Turkey 1 Mile
A Virtual 5K runs from November 1 through November 30 and can be completed from a neighborhood or local park. The event supports SOME’s programs that provide meals, housing, healthcare, and job training for people in need.
All participants must register and pay online; there is no in-person registration or payment at packet pick-up or on site. Registrations received by November 4, 2026 are guaranteed a race shirt. Pre-race packet pick-up is scheduled on November 24 and 25; this is the only opportunity to receive a shirt before race day. If a participant does not attend pre-race packet pick-up, the shirt will be available after the event.
The participant experience includes a family-oriented festival atmosphere, an awards presentation, and a Best Dressed Turkey pet competition. There is no water station on course; bottled water will be available at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
