Run for a Cause in Washington, D.C.
SOME's Trot for Hunger is a community athletics event held in the heart of Washington, D.C., at Freedom Plaza. The 2026 edition marks the 25th anniversary of this Thanksgiving morning tradition. The event brings participants together to support local community services, including meals, housing, healthcare, and job training programs.
The event features several participation options:
- 5K: A timed running race through the city streets.
- Little Turkey 1-Miler: A shorter distance run.
- Virtual 5K: An option to complete the distance from any location between November 1 and November 30.
- Pet Competition: A "Best Dressed Turkey" costume contest for pets.
The in-person assembly takes place at Freedom Plaza, located at 1325 Pennsylvania Ave NW. While there is no water station along the course itself, bottled water is provided for participants at the finish line. A finisher festival follows the races, and an awards ceremony is held on-site.
All participants are required to register and pay online in advance, as there is no in-person registration or payment available on the day of the event. Registration for the physical races includes a t-shirt, which can be collected during pre-race packet pick-up on November 24 and 25. Those who do not attend the pre-race pick-up must wait until after the morning events conclude to receive their shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
