22nd Annual LARS Race Against Hunger & Homelessness
The LARS Race Against Hunger & Homelessness, also known as the Turkey Trot, is a long-standing Thanksgiving morning tradition in Laurel, Maryland. Established in 2004, the event brings together participants from South Central Maryland and the surrounding regions to support the Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services (LARS). The event serves as a fundraiser to assist local community members in achieving stability and self-sufficiency by addressing hunger and homelessness.
Participants have several options for involvement:
- 5K Run
- 1M Walk
- Virtual Participant
The physical course begins on 8th Street, situated between Emancipation Community Park and Alice B. McCullough Field. Event activities, including packet pickup and registration, take place near the Sturgis Moore Pavilion. The race is held regardless of weather conditions, including rain or cold temperatures.
In addition to the in-person run and walk, a virtual participation option is available for those who cannot attend at the physical location. The event also offers a donor category for individuals who wish to contribute to the fundraising goals without participating in the athletic events. Since its inception, the gathering has focused on fostering hope and providing direct support to the Laurel community through sports and charity.
