Somba K'e Backyard Ultra in Yellowknife
The Somba K'e Backyard Ultra is described as the Territory's first Backyard Ultra, held at the Yellowknife Ski Club Chalet on Yellowknife Access Road in Yellowknife, NT, Canada. Registration opens on May 25, 2026.
The course is a 6.7 km loop. A new lap begins at the start of every hour and a cowbell will mark the start of each lap. Runners must complete the entire loop before the next hour begins and be in the starting corral when the next lap starts. The event continues until only one person remains who has completed the last lap, or until a 24 hour period has expired.
Mandatory equipment listed includes headlamps and adequate clothing. Stated rules include no outside assistance except from any crew in the starting area and only after a runner has completed their last loop and before the next loop. Spectators or other people are not allowed on the course except in the starting area.
Registration includes onsite snacks, food and beverages, access to ski club facilities and the chalet (including restrooms and space to set up a camping mat), a DNF medal or token for each participant, and a race t shirt that will be ready for race day.
