SMHS Makin' Hay 10K & 5K
The event is set for Saturday April 18, 2026 at Catoctin Creek Park and Nature Center in Middletown Maryland. The courses run through Frederick County farmland and follow sections along Catoctin Creek, including gravel road segments and historic one-lane wooden deck bridges.
Distances
- 10 km rolling course on gravel and roads, crosses two one-lane wooden deck bridges
- 5 km paved route with half the 10 km elevation; crosses one wooden bridge twice
Early packet pickup is scheduled at Charm City Run in Frederick on the Wednesday before the race April 15 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Race shirts are included for registrations completed before April 1, 2026; registrations on or after that date are not guaranteed a shirt.
Awards include custom awards for the overall top three male and female finishers in each race and custom glass awards for the top three in each five year age group. A mid pack award will be presented to the 10 km participant who finishes nearest the middle of the field.
Running strollers are allowed and the use of headphones or earbuds is strongly discouraged because the courses run on open roads where vehicular traffic may be encountered. Course maps with elevation profiles and a 10 km USATF certification certificate are available. Registrants may purchase third party event insurance and can initiate a partial refund until 30 days before the event; after that no individual refunds or transfers are available.
