Sleeping Bear Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

The Sleeping Bear Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K take place on October 3, 2026 in Empire, Michigan, inside Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. All races finish in Empire; the marathon and half begin at the Dune Climb and the 5K begins at Empire Beach. The event is scheduled during peak fall color season and follows tree-lined roads and trails.

The marathon is an out-and-back route that passes the Dune Climb, Little Glen Lake and the village of Glen Arbor, and offers views of the Manitou Islands and Sleeping Bear Dunes. The half marathon follows the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail and includes hilly sections. The 5K is an out-and-back course that finishes at the shores of Empire Beach.

Included with entry are an official unisex lightweight tri-blend hoodie, a custom finisher medal, post race refreshments and snacks, and professional race timing. Alcoholic beverages from Shorts Brewing are available to participants age 21 and over; nonalcoholic options are provided as well. Additional services include free digital race photos, participant tracking via RaceJoy, and a post race meal and celebration hosted at River Club Glen Arbor with live music and on-site amenities.
