Event Overview
The M22 Challenge is a triathlon held on June 13, 2026, within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Glen Arbor, Michigan. It consists of three sequential legs: a run, a bike ride, and a paddle.
Course Details
The course covers three distinct stages:
- Run: A 2.5-mile course starting on M-109. It goes into the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, features a 100-yard sand dune climb, and finishes back at the main event site.
- Bike: A 17-mile scenic route. It goes through Glen Arbor, along the Crystal River and Glen Lake, up to Inspiration Point. A no-drafting rule is enforced.
- Paddle: A 2.5-mile course on Little Glen Lake. Participants can use a surfski, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard (SUP). A personal flotation device (PFD) is required.
Event Logistics
Check-in is on June 12, 2026, from 3-7 pm at the M22 shop in Glen Arbor. Race day staging begins at 6 am, with a mandatory competitor meeting at 7:30 am. The run staging opens at 7:50 am, with participants starting in five waves based on expertise and age.
All participants must supply their own equipment, including bike, helmet, and watercraft. Local rental options are available. A specific boat wash and inspection process is mandated to prevent invasive species, with a tag required to participate.
Fees and Parking
The race entry fee is $205 and includes an event shirt, bag, and timing chip. An entrance fee or pass for the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is required for all participants and spectators. Parking is not allowed at the event site. Parking is available in downtown Glen Arbor with a shuttle service, or at designated Dune Climb parking lots.
Awards and Post-Event
The top three overall male and female finishers, and the top three in each age group, receive trophies. A post-race party with a complimentary meal ticket and a beverage ticket is hosted for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
