Skunk Ape Night Run
The Skunk Ape Night Run is a trail race held in the Green Swamp - West Tract near Dade City, Florida. The event offers a 30K distance on a mixed-surface route that includes pasture lanes, mud, dirt roads, single-track sections on the Florida Trail, sandy hills, fire berms, and grassy horse trails.
The course route follows Cumpressco Road and Rangers Landing Road, visits the Big Foot BSA campsite, uses marked entrances to the Florida Trail, and includes multiple loops such as the Berm Loop. Course markings include reflective tape, pink flagging, and turn signs with self-correcting information. A CalTopo map is provided for the course and noted as accurate until the final finish field section.
Aid stations appear every 3 to 5 miles and are stocked with soda, pickles, snacks (chips, cookies, gummy candies), produce, powdered electrolytes, and basic first-aid supplies. Band-aids and women’s hygiene products are available in a plastic box at each aid station. There is one drop bag zone at the Berm Aid Station; drop bags should be labeled and sized to a standard draw-string bag. Drop bags return to the Start/Finish after that aid station packs up.
Finisher awards are limited to a choice of drinkware items, and the top four men and women overall receive awards. The event hosts a post-race potluck with a stated entry cost and encourages shared dishes. Camping is free within the Green Swamp with a required reservation; some sites include picnic tables and fire rings or grills.
The event follows standards from the American Trail Running Association and aligns with guidelines from the International Trail Running Association and the IAU. It is included in the Skunk Ape Trail Series, which links this race with other Skunk Ape events for a combined challenge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
