Skirt the Skeith 12km
The Skirt the Skeith 12km is a community road race held in Dalry, North Ayrshire. Organized by the Community Development Hub and supported by the Dalry Sports Club and Garnock Valley Runners, the event marks its fifth anniversary in 2026. The race is limited to 200 participants, and all entrants must be aged 17 or over on the day of the event.
The 12 km route starts at Dalry Public Park and proceeds up Blair Road. Runners follow a hilly course around Auchenskeith and along the walls of the historic Blair House Estate before returning to the park. The route consists of paved roads which remain open to traffic during the event. Due to the hilly nature of the course and some narrow sections, the event cannot accommodate walkers or dogs. A water station is located at the 7 km mark near the entrance to the Blair Estate.
Race logistics include a staggered start based on estimated finishing times to manage the narrow initial path. Participants are required to collect their race bibs, which include timing chips, from the sports pavilion in the park. The pavilion also offers limited toilet facilities and a non-lockable bag drop area. Because the roads are not closed, the use of headphones is prohibited to ensure runner safety.
Participants receive a t-shirt and a medal upon completion, along with water and refreshments. Cash prizes are awarded to the first and second place male and female finishers, as well as the top two finishers in the veteran categories. The park is located a five-minute walk from the local Dalry railway station, and limited parking is available within the park and surrounding town.
