Run the Blades

Run the Blades is a trail running weekend held within Whitelee Wind Farm near Eaglesham. The programme includes adult races and a junior mile for under 16s, with on-site parking and an Event Village located at Turbine 53.

Distances

• 10K - evening trail around a rolling route with a hill near the end
• Half marathon - longer route with two intermediate checkpoints
• 50K ultra - four checkpoints and allowance for drop bags
• Junior RTB - a 1 mile event for under 16s starting and finishing in the Event Village

Routes mainly follow windfarm access roads and are not highly technical, though some sections can be muddy or rough underfoot. Checkpoint and water station provision: one at 5K on the 10K, two on the half marathon, and four on the 50K. Each checkpoint is crewed and includes a portaloo. Drop bags are permitted at ultra checkpoints only.

Participants collect race numbers in the Event Village on the day; nothing is sent by post. All entrants must carry a mobile phone for emergencies. Poles and dogs are not permitted on the course. The Visitor Centre has accessible entrances, disabled toilets and parking; accessible parking near the Event Village is available by prior arrangement.

Finishers receive a medal and a goody bag containing water and selected food items. Prize money and trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
