Run the Blades
Run the Blades is a trail running event held at Whitelee Wind Farm near Eaglesham. The event takes place within an operational wind farm, featuring routes that pass beneath 140-meter tall turbines. The terrain primarily consists of wind farm access roads, which provide a rolling surface. Each route includes a significant incline near the end of the course.
The event offers several distances across three days:
- 10 km - A rolling route held on Friday evening.
- 50 km Ultra - A well-marked course with four checkpoints.
- Half Marathon - A distance featuring two checkpoints and several hills.
- Junior RTB - A free 1 mile run for participants under 16 years of age.
The Event Village is located at Turbine 53 and serves as the hub for registration. Facilities include a bag drop area, portable toilets with sanitary products, and changing tents. On-site parking is available on the wind farm array roads, though participants should expect a walk of up to 1 km to the Event Village depending on arrival time.
Participants are required to carry a mobile phone for safety. Water stations are positioned at intervals along the routes, and the 50 km ultra distance allows for the use of drop bags at checkpoints. All finishers receive a medal and a goody bag containing food and water. Results are recorded using chip timing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
