Skipjack Run
The Skipjack Run takes place in Deal Island, Maryland, starting at the Deal Island Harbor. The course features the Chesapeake Bay Skipjack Fleet, recognized as the last commercial sail-powered fishing fleet in North America. Both race distances involve crossing the elegantly sloping half-mile Deal Island Bridge twice, as it is positioned at both the start and the finish of the route.
The event offers two distinct distances:
- 5K
- 10K
Participants run through a landscape that includes marsh creeks and views of the local osprey population. The course ends near Deal Island Beach, a location known for sea glass. The races utilize professional chip timing provided by TCR Event Management. Both the 5K and 10K distances start simultaneously.
The event is accessible to various participants, as walkers, jogging strollers, and leashed dogs are permitted on the course. Multiple water stops are located along the route, and EMT assistance is available if needed. Participants receive a long-sleeve tech tee with a cotton feel. Refreshments are provided after the race.
Awards are presented for overall male and female winners, masters categories for those over 40, and various age groups. All proceeds from the event are used to support the Deal Island Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
