Event Overview
The Skinny Raven Oktoberfest is a running event held on a Saturday in September. It is staged from the 49th State Brewing facility and The Rail tasting room in the Ship Creek area of Anchorage. The event supports Covenant House Alaska through donations and a matching fundraiser.
Distances and Formats
Participants can choose between an in-person or virtual format.
- In-person event with 5K and 10K distances. There is a separate start wave for walkers.
- Virtual event where participants can complete a 5K or 10K on their own time.
Course Details
The in-person courses are described as mostly flat, touring roads and bike paths in the Ship Creek area. Both the 5K and 10K start together on Depot Drive. They follow city streets to Post Road and then onto the Ship Creek Trail. The 5K continues west on the trail before returning to the finish. The 10K involves an out-and-back segment on the trail to William Tyson Elementary School before returning.
Event Features
After the run, there is a party at the 49th State Oktoberfest beer garden at The Rail. Event swag includes a long-sleeve t-shirt and a voucher for food or drinks. There will be an aid station on the course. Parking is available in downtown Anchorage streets and garages, with a walk required to the venue.
Registration and Logistics
Registration is tiered with early, regular, and last-chance rates. Packet pickup is available before event day, and virtual participants can have their packets mailed. Safety policies prohibit pets, bicycles, and rollerblades on the course. Participants with strollers are asked to start at the back. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
