Event overview

This is an in-person and virtual running and walking event staged from the 49th State Brewing facility and The Rail tasting room in Downtown Anchorage. Distances offered:

  • 5K
  • 10K

Walkers start in a separate wave. The event includes post-race access to the Oktoberfest party area at the 49th State Brewing venue; bibs serve as entry during the event and include a food or beverage voucher.

Course and logistics

Both distances start on Depot Drive by The Rail tasting room and follow 1st Avenue, Cordova Street, and Ship Creek Avenue to Post Road, then onto the ramp to the Ship Creek Trail. The 5K continues west on the Ship Creek Trail toward the Wingate hotel and returns via Cordova, 1st Avenue, and Depot Drive. The 10K is an out-and-back on the Ship Creek Trail to William Tyson Elementary School before returning the same way as the 5K. There is an aid station at about mile 1.5; the 10K passes this aid station again and has an additional station at the turnaround. Parking is available in downtown streets and garages; meters are free on Saturdays but the two-hour limit is enforced. There is no event parking accessed from Depot Drive or the Alaska Railroad Depot parking lot on 1st Avenue.

Additional details

Registration includes a unisex long-sleeve cotton-poly shirt and a $10 voucher valid at the event food truck, pretzel station, and for beverages at the Oktoberfest event venue. The voucher is not accepted at the 49th State Brewing location on 3rd Avenue. Virtual participants may complete their distance during a specified September timeframe and can request packet mailing; shipping outside Alaska carries a fee. The event supports Covenant House Alaska, with a donation match up to $500. Safety policies prohibit pets, bicycles, and rollerblades; participants with strollers are asked to start at the back.
