Event Overview
The Oktoberfest run in Anchorage is a running event with a festive theme. It offers both in-person and virtual participation options. The event also functions as a fundraiser for Covenant House Alaska, with organizers matching donations up to $500 to support at-risk youth.
Distances and Format
The event features two distances:
- A 5K
- A 10K
Participants can choose between an in-person race or a virtual option to complete the distance on their own. A walking start is included for in-person participants.
Course and Location
The in-person event is staged from the 49th State Brewing facility and The Rail tasting room on Depot Drive in the Ship Creek area. The course uses local roads and the Ship Creek Trail bike path. It is described as mostly flat. Both distances start together. The 10K route includes an out-and-back section on the trail.
Post-Race and Amenities
After the race, there is an Oktoberfest beer garden at The Rail for participants. The event includes traditional elements like pretzels. Registrants receive a long-sleeve t-shirt and a $10 voucher for food or drinks at the festival.
Registration and Logistics
Registration is tiered with early bird, regular, and last-chance pricing. Packet pickup is available before race day, and virtual participants can request their packets be mailed. For safety, pets, bicycles, and rollerblades are not allowed on the in-person course. Participants with strollers are asked to start at the back.
