Silverton Alpine Runs
Silverton Alpine Runs is a trail race weekend in Silverton, Colorado, held on the Alpine Loop in the San Juan Mountains. The event includes multiple distances that use historic jeep roads and mountain trails.
- 50K - approximately 31.8 miles, about 4,569 ft total elevation gain
- Marathon - approximately 26.8 miles, about 3,911 ft total elevation gain
- 8 Mile - approximately 8.4 miles, about 382 ft total elevation gain
The 50K and marathon follow a loop that passes the ghost mining towns Howardsville, Eureka, Animas Forks, and Gladstone. The course reaches its high point at California Pass at about 12,926 feet. The 8 mile distance is an out-and-back that reaches Howardsville and returns to Memorial Park.
Aid stations are provided along the routes and are described as well stocked. There are checkout cutoffs at California Pass and Gladstone. The Kendall Mountain Run portion is a cupless event so runners must carry a refillable container for liquids. Pacers are not allowed on any distance. Crew and spectators cannot access aid stations; crew support is permitted at the start and finish areas only. A drop bag area is available at the start/finish for runner access.
Start and finish are at Silverton Memorial Park with parking available nearby on Greene Street and Main Street. Online registration closes on Sunday, July 12 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time. Race items noted include a soft tri blend shirt for early registrants, finisher photo, chip timing, and awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
