About the race
The Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run, often called Hardrock 100, is a 100 mile loop ultramarathon around Silverton, Colorado, in the San Juan Mountain Range. The course runs on 4WD roads, dirt trails, and cross country terrain at high elevation and crosses public lands under special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S.
Forest Service. The route totals 66,882 feet of elevation change, comprised of 33,441 feet of climb and 33,441 feet of descent, with an average elevation of 11,186 feet. The course lowest point is 7,680 feet at Ouray and the highest point is 14,048 feet at Handies Peak. The event uses a loop course and publishes course maps, a runners manual, and a volunteer manual. Entry is managed by a lottery process.
The event maintains a scholarship program that awards between 500 and 2,000 USD to people from underrepresented communities or with barriers to participation; scholarship applications close December 15. The event also has a transgender and non binary athlete inclusion policy that creates a non binary division and respects self declared gender during lottery and registration, with formal eligibility challenges limited to top three finishers through a confidential process.
