SilverBackTrails Wade’s Revenge
SilverBackTrails Wade’s Revenge is a trail running half marathon held in the North York Moors National Park. The event starts and finishes at Levisham Village Hall and covers a route of about 13.1 miles that runs through forest tracks, open fields, wooded valleys and extensive moorland. The course passes through the Hole of Horcum, a natural amphitheatre about 400 feet deep and three quarters of a mile wide; local legend says the feature was created by the giant Wade.
This is the Widdershins Edition, with the course run in the opposite direction to the usual route. The event has a five hour time limit and entries are limited to 50 participants. There are two checkpoints on course offering flapjacks, crisps, sweets, water and pop. Finishers are offered tea or coffee, soup and a roll, and all finishers receive a bespoke medal.
Navigation is supported by marshals, some flags, a route GPX provided to entrants and a master route map available at registration. Mandatory kit requirements include a waterproof jacket with taped seams unless Paramo, a hat or buff and gloves, an emergency bivvy bag, a spare long sleeved insulating top, a charged mobile phone with maps where possible, at least 500 ml of fluid and 120 g of emergency food, a working compass and OS Explorer 27 or Harvey’s North Yorkshire Moors map. Spot checks may be carried out and non compliant participants will be withdrawn.
The entry fee is £23. No entries are accepted on the day. Parking will be within the village adjacent to the village hall and a £1 per car contribution will be collected at registration for the village hall and the national park. An optional event technical T shirt is available for £18 through the club shop. Dogs are permitted on a lead and will start after other participants.
