SilverBackTrails Wade’s Revenge
SilverBackTrails Wade’s Revenge is a trail running half marathon held in the North York Moors National Park. The route starts and finishes at Levisham Village Hall and covers circa 13.1 miles, taking in the natural amphitheatre known as the Hole of Horcum.
This is the Widdershins edition, using the same course run in the opposite direction. The route follows forest tracks, ancient pathways and sheep trods, and passes through open fields, wooded valleys and expansive moorland. The Hole of Horcum on the route is described as about 400 ft deep and three quarters of a mile wide; a local legend about its formation is noted on event information.
Support on the course includes two checkpoint locations offering flapjacks, crisps, sweets, water and soft drinks. There will be marshals and some flags to aid navigation, entrants receive a GPX file and a master route map is available at registration. A 5 hour time limit applies. Tea, coffee, soup and a roll are provided after the finish. All finishers receive a bespoke medal.
Places are limited to 50 runners. Minimum age is 16 on the day of the event. Entry fee is £23; no entries are accepted on the day. Transfers are permitted up to one week before the event but there are no refunds. Parking is within the village adjacent to the hall and a £1 per car collection at registration will be shared between the village hall and the national park.
Entrants must carry mandatory kit as a minimum: a waterproof jacket with taped seams unless Paramo, hat or buff or gloves, emergency bivvy bag, spare long sleeved warm insulating top, a charged mobile phone (ideally with OS maps and what3words), at least 500 ml of fluid and at least 120 g of emergency food, a working compass and OS Explorer 27 or Harvey’s North Yorkshire Moors map. All entrants sign a disclaimer confirming they have the required kit; there may be spot checks and anyone without the mandatory equipment will be withdrawn from the event and barred from future SilverBackTrails events.
The event is organised by SilverBack Trails. An optional event specific technical T shirt is available via the SilverBackTrails club shop for £18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
