Loftus Poultry Run
The Loftus Poultry Run is an annual pre Christmas event organised by Loftus and Whitby AC that has been held for over 38 years. It is a chip timed, multi terrain race of approximately 7 miles that follows quiet country lanes, bridleways, footpaths and muddy farmer fields.
The course generally ascends during the first half and then descends toward the finish. Sturdy trainers or trail shoes are recommended. There are prizes for age category winners and a range of spot prizes, including Christmas food prizes and the event namesake poultry. Each finisher receives a bespoke T shirt and consolation prizes are awarded to the final finishers.
The event often features runners in costume and a brass band, contributing to a festive atmosphere. Entries are limited to a maximum of 400 and there are no entries on the day. Race numbers are issued at registration on the day and transfers or deferrals are allowed if requested at least one week before the event.
Basic facilities are available at Loftus Leisure Centre, including toilets and a limited choice of light refreshments and hot drinks. Parking is available at the leisure centre but limited; two additional car parks lie a short walk south of the police station and on North Road, and there is street parking in the area.
Event rules include a ban on in ear and over ear headphones in line with the current athletics ruling; bone conduction headphones are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
