Loftus Poultry Run
The Loftus & Whitby Poultry Run is a long-established, multi-terrain race held just before Christmas for over 38 years. The event is chip timed and covers approximately 7 miles along quiet country lanes, bridleways, footpaths and muddy farmer’s fields. The course is generally ascending in the first half and then becomes a downhill run to the finish. Sturdy trainers or trail shoes are recommended; fell shoes are not suggested unless there is heavy snow.
Prizes are awarded to winners in all age categories, with additional spot prizes and seasonal prize packages that have included poultry. Each finisher receives a bespoke T-shirt and there are consolation prizes for runners finishing last. Many participants wear costumes and a brass band often contributes to a festive atmosphere.
Entry details published by the organiser note entry fees of £23 for E.A. members and £26 for non E.A. members, with an early entry period reducing those fees to £17 and £20 respectively before midnight on August 31. Maximum entries are 400 and there are no entries on the day. Race numbers are issued at registration on the day.
The event base is Loftus Leisure Centre (TS13 4RS). Toilets and a limited choice of light refreshments and hot drinks are available. Parking at the leisure centre is limited; two nearby car parks are a short walk from the start and there is street parking in the area. The wearing of in ear or over ear headphones is banned; bone conduction headphones are permitted. Entries are non refundable but may be transferred or deferred under stated conditions.
