Moors Traverse® : Sunday 29 March 2026
The Moors Traverse® is described as an 80 km ultra that follows Wainwright’s coast to coast route from Ingleby Cross to Robin Hood’s Bay. The course runs along the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park and then through eastern Yorkshire to a shoreline finish at Robin Hood’s Bay. The route distance varies by edition; the headline 80 km is a slight overestimate for the 2025 route. Estimated total height gain is about 1,600 m. The event has an ethos of self-sufficiency and the minimum age is 18.
Route, support and rules
The route is not fully waymarked but is a well established national trail. Organisers supply a waterproof race map, a digital map via the Avenza app and a downloadable GPX file; a final GPX is sent to participants before the event. Participants must carry mandatory kit which is checked at registration; a survival bag is required. A finishers drop bag is transported to the finish and must weigh no more than 5 kg.
Support is provided at named Support Points with food and medical cover present in most locations. Key Support Points and distances are:
- Lordstones Support Point - 13 km from start; 511 m gain.
- Lion Inn - 32 km from start; 19 km from Lordstones; 549 m gain.
