Silent Night
Silent Night is organised by Durham Fell Runners and is licensed and supported by the Fell Runners Association. The event is a night fell race of 6.6 km with 370 m of ascent, run entirely in the dark on an unmarked route up to the 703 m summit of Chapelfell Top above St Johns Chapel in Weardale. Navigation is required and participants must carry their own navigation equipment.
Entries are managed via SI Entries. Entrants must provide verifiable evidence of completing two events that include off path navigation, for example Mountain Marathons, orienteering events, or AL Lakeland or similar races; trail races, sky races and short fell races will not be accepted as qualifying events. Kit requirements are extensive and will be strictly enforced.
A map is supplied at registration. Required kit includes a suitable compass, a whistle, a head torch with a spare, waterproof top with integrated hood and taped seams, waterproof bottoms with taped seams, emergency food, gloves, hat, an emergency bivvy bag, a spare warm insulated top and spare full length tights in a waterproof bag, and a mobile phone with the race organiser number stored.
