Event Overview

The Cronkley Fell Race is a fell running event held in the scenic environment of Upper Teesdale. Classified as a BM race, the course covers a distance of 17.1 km with over 560 meters of total ascent. The event is organized by Durham Fell Runners and takes place in the Durham Dales.

Course Details

The race follows an out and back route that begins and ends in the quiet hamlet of Holwick. Participants start on the road from Middleton-in-Teesdale at Low Way Farm, moving onto a track before heading out into the open fell. The course runs parallel to the River Tees and reaches a turnaround point at an island in the river after approximately 6 km of undulating terrain.

Requirements and Logistics

The event is open to runners aged 18 and older. Because the route involves rough terrain without flagged paths, participants must have fell running experience and competent navigation skills. Registration is located at the Farmhouse Kitchen Cafe at Low Way Farm, and parking is managed by event marshals. The entry fee includes a chip buttie and a hot drink (tea or coffee) from the cafe.

All runners must be prepared to carry specific mandatory kit during the race: Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
