Cronkley Fell Race
Cronkley Fell Race is a BM fell race of about 17.1 km across the fells of Upper Teesdale with roughly 560 m of ascent. The course is an out and back route that runs parallel to the River Tees and begins and finishes in the hamlet of Holwick, with the turnaround on an island in the river.
The route leaves the road onto track and open fell, with an undulating section before the descent to the river. The fell section is not always on paths and none of the route is flagged, so competitors must be competent at navigation and confident on rough terrain. The event is for people aged 18 or older with fell running experience.
Participants collect a race number and a map of the route; a downloadable map is also available. The entry fee includes a chip buttie and tea or coffee from the Farmhouse Kitchen. Marshals will direct parking at the event. The race is organised by Durham Fell Runners and is licensed and supported by the FRA.
Recommended kit to carry includes a map, compass, whistle, waterproof top with integral hood and taped seams, waterproof bottoms with taped seams, hat and gloves. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
