Cronkley Fell Race
Cronkley Fell Race is a BM fell race across the fells of Upper Teesdale. The course is an out and back route of about 17 km with around 560 m of ascent. The route runs parallel to the River Tees and begins and finishes in the hamlet of Holwick, with the start on the road to Holwick from Middleton-in-Teesdale outside the Farmhouse Kitchen at Low Way Farm.
Runners follow road and track before moving onto open fell. After an undulating first 6 km the route drops to an island in the River Tees, which is the turnaround point for the return to Holwick. A map of the route is provided at registration and is also available to download.
Entry is open to people aged 18 or older. The event notes that participants should have fell running experience, be confident on rough terrain and carry competent navigation skills because sections of the route are unmarked and paths are not always present. Required kit includes a map, compass, whistle, a waterproof top with integral hood and taped seams, waterproof bottoms with taped seams, hat and gloves.
The race is organised by Durham Fell Runners and is licensed and supported by the FRA. The entry fee includes a chip buttie and tea or coffee provided by the Farmhouse Kitchen. Entries open 1 March 2026 and close 10 September 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
