Cronkley Fell Race
Cronkley Fell Race is an out and back fell race across the fells of Upper Teesdale, beginning and finishing in the hamlet of Holwick. The course runs broadly parallel to the River Tees and covers about 17.1 km with approximately 560 m of ascent. The route leaves the road near the Farmhouse Kitchen at Low Way Farm, follows tracks onto open fell, includes an undulating section of about 6 km, and uses an island in the River Tees as the turnaround point before returning to Holwick.
The race is a BM category fell event and is unmarked on the fell section. Participants must be 18 or older, have fell running experience, be confident on rough terrain, and possess competent navigation skills. A map of the route is provided at registration and is available to download from the event website. Entrants are expected to carry standard fell kit including a map, compass, whistle, waterproof top and bottoms with taped seams, hat, and gloves. Race entry includes a chip buttie and tea or coffee from the Farmhouse Kitchen. The event is organised by Durham Fell Runners and is licensed and supported by the Fell Runners Association.
