Sierra Azul Trail Challenge
The Sierra Azul Trail Challenge takes place on April 19, 2025 at Almaden Quicksilver County Park, Hacienda Entrance in San Jose, California. The event is set inside the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve near Mt. Umunhum and offers several trail distances on natural terrain.
All courses are out and back and are marked with solid color pink ribbons tied to clothespins, plus signs and gypsum. Toilets are available at the Hacienda start and finish area and at the Woods Aid Station. Multiple aid stations with water and toilets are placed along the longer courses; some aid stations also serve as cutoffs with scheduled closure times for specific distances.
Offered race distances include:
- 5K
- 7 Mile
- Half Marathon
- 20 Mile
- Trail Marathon
- 50K
Course ascent figures vary by distance, from 974 feet for the 5K to 8,802 feet for the 50K. Drop bag service is provided for the 20 Mile, Trail Marathon and 50K at Hacienda plus Kennedy and Priest Rock aid stations. Race maps are available for each distance and courses require runners to retrace outbound routes back to the finish.
Online registration is available through the evening before the race, mail in and race day registration options are offered, and volunteers are invited to staff aid stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
