Double Road Race - Palo Alto
The Double Road Race is a multi-stage running event held annually in Palo Alto, California. Established in 2012, this competition takes place on paved bike and running paths that wind through the Palo Alto baylands. The courses are flat, fast, and separated from motor vehicle traffic, with approximately 90% of the route on paved surfaces.
The event offers several distances and formats:
- Double 15K: A two-stage race consisting of a 10 km leg followed by a 5 km leg.
- 10K: A standard single-stage 10 km road race.
- 5K: A 5 km run or walk event.
- Kids 1 Mile: A 1 mile race specifically for children aged 13 and under.
The featured Double 15K format includes a mandatory halftime break between the two stages. Scoring for this event is determined by combining the times from both the 10 km and 5 km legs. Participants must complete both segments to receive an official total time.
All participants receive a long-sleeve shirt and a tote bag, while all finishers are presented with a medal. The event includes age-group awards for the Double 15K, with categories ranging from 19 and under to 80 plus. The winners of each race receive trophies, and special medals are awarded to ten-year age-group winners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
