Hunua Ranges - Auckland Trail Run & Walk Series
The event is held in the Hunua Ranges, the largest area of native forest in Auckland. Trails include single track, bush sections, fast gravel roads and several stream crossings. The event base and parking are at Upper Mangatawhiri Campsite, Waterline Road, Hunua; parking marshals manage permitted parking areas. The venue is subject to Kauri Dieback controls: all footwear, gear and vehicles must be free of visible soil and footwear should be disinfected before entering the park. Compliance officers will be present and entry may be refused for non compliant gear.
Courses run through flowing valley trails and more remote backcountry sections. The longer courses include technical single track and significant climbing, and the Super Long course uses the Mangatangi Trig Track. The event is cup free; drink stations provide PURE electrolyte hydration, water and light snacks, so participants are expected to use a reusable cup, bottle or hydration pack.
Distances and climbs:
- 6 km total climb approximately 105 m
- 13.5 km total climb approximately 220 m
- 17.5 km total climb approximately 310 m
- 21 km total climb approximately 670 m
Compulsory equipment is required for the Super Long course and will be checked at registration. Recommended safety items for all participants include a basic first aid kit, a cell phone, a whistle, additional warm clothing and sufficient hydration.
