TrailNav Series
TrailNav is a navigation challenge event organised by Lactic Turkey Events that can be entered solo or in teams. Participants choose between 3 hour and 90 minute challenge formats and score points by locating checkpoints on a provided map or by completing optional mystery activities.
Events in 2026 take place at three locations: Waitawa Regional Park on 2 August, Riverhead Forest on 30 August, and Muriwai Regional Park on 20 September. Teams must stay together at all times and plan their route during a planning period provided after registration.
Registration on arrival includes maps, waterproof bags, navigational checkpoint descriptions and mystery activity details. The event uses the MapRun electronic scoring system; teams must download the event to their phones in advance, and the app records GPS visits to checkpoints. Late arrival at the finish incurs a penalty of 30 points per minute. A prize giving follows each event, with token merit prizes for top teams and spot prizes drawn randomly. A post‑race barbecue is included in the entry fee.
Entry fees are stated in New Zealand dollars and include junior and senior concessions and family rates. A $10 surcharge applies to entries received after the Tuesday before the event. Participants are advised to bring appropriate footwear, weather clothing, a small first aid kit, a writing implement and a fully charged mobile phone.
