Shirley May France 10k Road Race
The Shirley May France 10k Road Race is a community event held in Somerset. It celebrates the legacy of a local swimmer who gained national attention in the late 1940s for her attempts to swim the English Channel. The event is hosted by the Somerset Economic Development Committee and presented by BankFive, with the goal of supporting local small businesses.
The event features three distinct distances for participants:
- 10k Road Race
- 5k Road Race
- 1 Mile Family Fun Walk
The 10k course starts and finishes on historic Riverside Avenue. The route travels through the center of Somerset, looping around Dublin Street, High Street, and South Street. The finish line is located at the Comfort Zone Grille & Bar.
This event aims to stimulate business for local establishments situated near the course. Participating athletes and spectators often gather at the finish area for an after-party held at the local restaurant. The race serves as a rally for the community, highlighting several nearby staples such as Auclair’s Market, Somerset Creamery, and various local financial institutions and restaurants.
