Shelter Dog Dash
Shelter Dog Dash is a community running and fundraising event held on February 13, 2027 at Freestone District Park, East Juniper Avenue, Gilbert, AZ. The event is organized by StartLine Racing and benefits One Love Arizona, a nonprofit that runs programs to help at-risk shelter dogs.
The event offers multiple participation options:
- 5K Dash
- 1 Mile Dash
- Virtual Dash
Funds raised support One Love Arizona programs including the Shelter Dog Project, free spay and neuter clinics for higher-risk breeds, and an 11-week in-prison dog training program. The Shelter Dog Project provides training, medical care, marketing, and post-adoption support and also offers weekly free PetSmart training classes for shelter and foster dogs. Free clinics provide spay, neuter, and vaccinations for pit bull, shepherd, and husky mixes. The prison program pairs incarcerated individuals with shelter dogs for training and rehabilitation.
All participants receive a custom finisher's medal and event shirt, with an option to change shirt choices or opt out. The 5K includes male and female age-group awards for the top three finishers. The event permits wheelchairs and strollers on the course, and is pet friendly for leashed dogs; dogs should be kept 6 ft apart and retractable leashes are not allowed.
