Gilbert Half Marathon

The Gilbert Half Marathon is an annual running event organized by the Shun the Sun Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on skin cancer prevention and early detection. The event uses race proceeds to fund education about skin cancer causes, support prevention activities, sponsor community events, and donate sunblock to youth groups.

The event began in Mesa, Arizona in 2009 and moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2014 to coincide with local celebrations. Since 2022 the race has been based in the Verde at Cooley Station development, with both the start and finish located in that complex. A post race expo takes place in the heart of Verde at Cooley Station, and nearby tenants often open early and offer discounts to attendees.

All three courses used by the event are USATF certified, allowing performances to be used as official qualifiers and for national ranking or record purposes. The event is produced in partnership with a specialty running retailer, and the 2026 edition will mark the 18th annual running.
