About the race
SHAC Community Center organizes a Thanksgiving program that includes a free community dinner and a Turkey Trot 5K with a kids fun run. The free Thanksgiving dinner is offered annually; last year nearly 40 people ate together and 40 takeout meals were provided. The center also distributed dozens of meals to seniors and people experiencing homelessness in Albany and Wynantskill, and provided 50 meals to Troy Sidewalk Warriors for distribution.
The Turkey Trot event has featured several hundred participants in past editions and includes raffle prizes from local businesses and vendor tables. T shirts are guaranteed for entrants registered by November 1; late registrants will receive shirts if available. Entry fees are published with different rates depending on registration date, and a discounted rate is applied automatically at checkout for qualifying participants.
Volunteer roles are needed for cooking, set up, serving, and cleanup. Donations are accepted to support the dinner and related needs. The SHAC Community Center is based in Averill Park, Sand Lake, New York, and hosts these activities as part of its local Thanksgiving offerings.
