The Albany IceBreaker Challenge 5K
The IceBreaker Challenge is a running and walking road race held at the Albany Rowing Center Boathouse in the Corning Preserve. Runners and walkers travel along the Corning Preserve Bicycle Path while rowers from the Albany Rowing Center race alongside in shells on the Hudson River. The event also functions as a fundraiser to expand access to rowing and to the Hudson River for community members.
The event includes the following distances:
- 5K
- 0.5 Miles (Kids Run, free for children under 12)
Awards are presented to first place finishers in age and gender categories, listed as Women and Open, and to overall first place winners. The first 250 registrants receive a souvenir t shirt. Prizes from a local vendor are provided for all race category winners. Registration fees listed in the event details show a fee for the 5K and no fee for the kids run.
Packet pick up and last chance registration are offered at Common Roots Albany Outpost the day before the race, and also at the boathouse on race day. Parking is available at the Corning Preserve Boat Launch; if that lot fills, parking attendants will direct participants to an overflow lot. Sponsorship opportunities are available with a stated sponsorship deadline of Friday, March 6. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
