Settle Hills Race
The Settle Hills Race is a fell running event held in the limestone landscape above Settle. The course covers a distance of 11.3 km (7 miles) with a total ascent of 600 m (1,640 ft). It is categorized as a BM race under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules. The event begins at Settle Market Place and concludes at the North Ribblesdale Rugby Club.
The route features varied terrain, starting with a steep climb out of Settle followed by a technical ascent onto rough ground above Attermire Scar. Runners follow flagged sections over uneven terrain toward Jubilee Cave before transitioning to fast paths. A second significant climb leads up High Hill via grassy tracks, followed by a very steep descent to a water station at a road crossing. The final section follows a bridleway and fields back to the finish.
Event facilities are located at the North Ribblesdale Rugby Club, including registration, toilets, and refreshments. Free parking is provided at the club for participants. The race is open to runners aged 18 and over. Because the route crosses private land where livestock may be present, dogs are not permitted on the course.
The event follows FRA requirements, meaning participants must bring mandatory kit which is checked based on weather conditions. In 2026, the race also serves as the host for the Yorkshire Senior and Under 23 Fell Running Championships. Entry is available online in advance, with limited entries on the day if the race limit is not reached. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
