Beyond the Lune Winter Ultra
Beyond the Lune Winter Ultra is a single-day trail event on 19 December 2026 that starts and finishes at The Barn in Kirkby Lonsdale. The route is a loop of 65 km with approximately 2000 m of ascent, mostly on footpaths and bridleways with about 10 km of tarmac.
The course passes seven summits and includes technical sections and notable features such as the Radical Steps near the finish. Participants must be able to self-navigate the entire loop using a GPS unit or a map; phone navigation is not accepted. Organisers provide a GPX file of the route and there are two checkpoints with hot food, drinks and water.
Event provisions include a hot pastry and coffee or other hot drink to start, Beyond the Lune merchandise where available, and a finisher beer and pizza. Merchandise may not be guaranteed for entries made in the final week.
Entrants must be 18 or older. The entry fee listed is £45 and entries are open from 24 August 2026 until 11 December 2026. A list of required mandatory kit will be checked at registration; required items include a rucksack or race vest, running shoes, waterproof jacket and overtrousers with taped seams, warm hat, gloves, survival bag, GPS unit with backup map or second GPS, compass, whistle, small first aid kit, food and water, long sleeve base layer, and head torch with spare batteries.
