Beyond the Lune Winter Ultra
The Beyond the Lune Winter Ultra is a loop trail run based in Kirkby Lonsdale that covers 65 km with approximately 2000 m of ascent, starting and finishing at The Barn in the town centre. The route runs mostly on footpaths and bridleways with about 10 km on tarmac and includes seven summits and several local landmarks, finishing with a technical section known as the Radical steps.
Navigation is participant led. Competitors must be able to self-navigate using a GPS unit with a backup map or a second GPS unit; phone navigation is not accepted. There are two checkpoints with feed stations offering hot food, drinks and water.
Participants must be 18 or older. Mandatory kit, checked at registration, includes a ruc sac or race vest or bum bag, trail shoes, waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, waterproof overtrousers with taped seams, warm hat, gloves, a survival bag, GPS unit plus backup map or GPS, compass, whistle, small first aid kit, water and food, a long sleeve base layer, and a head torch with spare batteries.
