Selworthy Beacon Fell Race
The event is a traditional fell run of approximately 4 miles, with about 1000 ft of ascent and descent between Bossington National Trust car park and Selworthy Beacon. The route goes through Hurlstone Combe up to the Trig Point at Selworthy Beacon and returns to the Bossington car park. The course is entirely off-road, with most running across the open moorland of Exmoor.
There are compulsory checkpoints at the bottom of Hurlstone Combe, at the Trig Point on Selworthy Beacon, and again at the bottom of Hurlstone Combe. The race is run with zero course markers and requires self-navigation; a marshall will be present at the bottom of Hurlstone Combe and at Selworthy Beacon. Runners unfamiliar with the course are expected to carry a map and compass and know how to use them. Mandatory kit requirements are weather dependent and will be announced at registration.
Race headquarters and parking are at Bossington National Trust car park, with additional parking available around Selworthy Beacon and in Porlock; arriving on foot from nearby parking is possible. Prizes are awarded to the first male, first female, and age category winners. The event is licensed by the Fell Runners Association, classified BS, and limited to 100 places. On-the-day entries are accepted if the race is not full; on-the-day fees are £12.00 for Fell Runners Association members and £14.00 for non members. No mementoes are provided.
