South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge
The South West Coast 50 is a supported trail event based at Dunster, taking in the Minehead section of the South West Coast Path and crossing Exmoor. The 50 km loop includes varied terrain and approximately 1600 metres of climb. The event also offers shorter options: 25 km and 10 km.
Support and facilities include a large basecamp near Dunster Castle with camping, bar, parking and festival-style hospitality. The route is fully signed and uses GPS tracking; a timing system scans participants at rest stops and progress is monitored by an event control room. Covered rest stops appear roughly every 12.5 km, with larger marquee stops about every 25 km. Rest stops provide seating, catering, medical and welfare tents, and changing areas.
Catering is included with snacks approximately every 12.5 km, meals about every 25 km, energy drinks, and options to meet dietary needs. Medical cover includes doctors, paramedics, first aiders, podiatrists and massage teams, plus a mobile emergency medical service. Camping packages are available with showers and chill-out areas. Event finishes include a medal, finisher’s T-shirt, a glass of fizz and a finish-line meal. Additional options listed are solo challenger starts, an Ultra March option and a Trailblazerz option. The event is scheduled for 25 July 2026 and 24 July 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
