Secret Santa Series - A War of Attrition
The Secret Santa Series is a festive trail running event held in the Black Mountains within the Brecon Beacons National Park. Starting from Cwmdu Village Hall near Crickhowell, participants navigate rugged mountain terrain that includes rocky paths, boggy moorland, narrow single-track trails, and forest sections. The event features updated routes for 2026, heading west toward Bwlch Mountain and following sections of the Beacons Way.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- Half Marathon du Mulled Wine: A long-distance route involving steep climbs, views of Cockit Hill and central Beacons, and a traverse towards Cefn Moel.
- Turkey Ten Miles: A mid-distance mountain race featuring significant elevation gain and technical trails.
- Figgy Pudding 14km: A shorter but intense course involving technical terrain and several hill ascents.
All courses are fully marked and supported by back runners for safety. Participants must adhere to a strict mandatory kit list, which includes a waterproof jacket and trousers, race vest, base layer, 1 liter of fluid capacity, food, a map or GPX file, a mobile phone, hat, gloves, trail shoes, a first aid kit, and a foil blanket.
The event is cup-free, and runners must provide their own reusable cups. Facilities at the race headquarters include refreshments, toilets, and parking for a fee. Finishers receive a bespoke medal, mulled wine, and mince pies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
