Second Beach Sprint Triathlon
The Second Beach Sprint Triathlon is a coastal sprint-distance triathlon held at Second Beach in Middletown, Rhode Island on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The event features an open-ocean swim, a short road bike, and a run that passes through protected coastal lands.
Distances:
- Swim: 1/3 mile, open-ocean start off Second Beach, clearly marked course with shoreline support
- Bike: 11.1 miles, rolling roads through Middletown farmland, about 565 ft elevation gain
- Run: 3.3 miles, route toward Sachuest Point and around the reservoir near Third Beach and Hanging Rock Road, about 47 ft elevation gain through nature preserve areas
Registration and entry notes: Online registration is managed through RunSignUp. All athletes must complete online registration, hold USAT membership or obtain a single-day event license, and complete required waivers before race day. Race-day registration is limited. Online registration closes September 10, 2026. Individual pricing tiers begin at $75 (early bird) and increase at scheduled dates; all registrations are non-refundable.
Logistics: Packet pickup is available Thursday, September 10 and Friday, September 11 at the Newport County YMCA parking lot pavilion (792 Valley Road, Middletown). Race morning packet pickup is available at Second Beach under the event tent. Athletes must pick up packets and receive timing chips before entering transition.
Additional details: This is the inaugural running of the Second Beach Triathlon. The event includes a memorial award for the fastest overall swim split (male and female) and partners with the Newport County YMCA to support the Race4Chase youth triathlon program.
