Second Beach Sprint Triathlon
The Second Beach Sprint Triathlon is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Second Beach in Middletown, Rhode Island (315 Sachuest Point Road). This is the inaugural edition of the race.
Distances:
- Swim : 650 yards / 1/3 mile
- Bike : 11.1–11.2 miles, 565 ft elevation gain
- Run : 3.3 miles, 47 ft elevation gain
The swim is an open-ocean start off Second Beach on a clearly marked course with shoreline support. The bike leg follows quiet roads and scenic farmland in Middletown with gentle elevation changes. The run travels toward Sachuest Point and loops around a reservoir near Third Beach and Hanging Rock Road, running entirely through protected nature preserve areas with coastal views.
Registration was handled online through RunSignUp and the event is currently sold out. All athletes were required to complete online registration, provide USAT membership or a single-day event license, and submit required waivers before race day. Online registration closed September 10, 2026. All registrations are non-refundable.
Packet pickup was scheduled for September 10 and September 11 at the Newport County YMCA parking lot pavilion at 792 Valley Road, with additional race-morning pickup at Second Beach. Athletes were not permitted into the transition area until they had their packet, timing chip, and bib marking. An athlete guide was provided for competitors.
The event includes a memorial award for the fastest overall swim split for male and female athletes and sought volunteers for course and on-site support. The race partnered with the Newport County YMCA Race4Chase youth program for children aged 6 to 12. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
