Sebago Lake Triathlon
The Sebago Lake Triathlon takes place at St Joseph's College in Standish, Maine, and includes multiple race formats held on the same weekend: Olympic and Sprint triathlons, aquabike, duathlon, relay divisions, and virtual triathlon and duathlon options. The virtual events may be completed anytime between June 1 and June 30.
Swims occur in Sebago Lake; average water temperature is reported in the mid 60s Fahrenheit at that time of year. Bike courses run on local country roads and the runs take place on wooded trails across the college campus, with many bridges and a finishing loop described separately from the flatter red loop. Aid stations are located approximately every one mile on the run courses. The finish is near the transition area on the grass in front of Xavier Hall.
Distances include:
- Sprint swim: 1/3 mile triangular course in Sebago Lake
- Olympic swim: 0.9 mile swim in the lake basin
- Sprint bike: 13.1 miles
- Olympic bike: 22.8 miles
- Sprint run: 5k on campus wooded trails with bridges
- Olympic run: 5.2 miles
There is a single transition area adjacent to the finish. Only volunteers, staff, and registered athletes may enter; body-marking is required before entry, and helmets and bikes must meet USAT compliance for inspection. Relay exchanges follow specific bike-rack handoff rules.
Professional chip timing provides splits for swim, bike, run, T1, T2, and finish. Awards are given to top overall finishers, age-group top three (age as of December 31), aquabike top finishers, specified weight divisions, and top relays. Packet pickup requires ID and is available at designated locations including Cyclemania and the Alfond Center at St Joseph's College. Parking is on campus a short distance from the transition area.
The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon; nonmembers must purchase a one-day license as part of registration. The race is scheduled to proceed rain or shine; management reserves the right to alter, cancel, postpone, convert to virtual, or remove course legs for safety or other reasons. Entry fees are nonrefundable except for an optional fully refundable entry add-on available at registration for an additional $25, refundable up to three days before the race.
