The Screaming Monkey 100
The eighth annual Screaming Monkey event takes place on 7 November 2026 at Eddie D. Jones Park in Keithville, Louisiana, near a National Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Runners may hear nearby primates during sections of the course as the route runs close to the sanctuary.
The course is built around a 15.5-mile loop that is largely single-track and includes equestrian and UTV trails. Surface conditions include moderately packed soil mixed with roots, rocks, and occasional water. The organizer states the loop has about 1050 feet of elevation gain and loss and contains varied terrain including pine-straw-covered rolling red-clay hills and a ravine section. Bells from the Veterans Cemetery at the park entrance may be audible during the day.
Distances offered:
- 8K
- 25K
- 50K
- 100K
- 100 mile
Aid is available at the start/finish and at two on-course stations, with drop-bag access noted at mile 9 and mile 14. Pacers are allowed with race director consent; pacers must register, sign a waiver, and may join after competitors complete two laps. Cutoff windows are provided by distance (for example, 50K and shorter have a 12-hour cutoff; 100K and 100-mile events have longer overall cutoffs and lap requirements).
Free camping is available at the park on race weekend; limited RV pads are offered under boondocking rules. Each distance receives a medal, with a custom buckle traditionally awarded for the 100K and 100-mile distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
