Screaming Monkey
Screaming Monkey is a trail running event at Eddie D. Jones Park in Keithville, Louisiana, held on November 7, 2026. The course passes near a National Chimpanzee Sanctuary and sections of trail can include audible chimpanzee activity.
Race distances include:
- 100 miler
- 100K
- 50K
- 25K
- 10K
The main course is a 15.5 mile loop used for distances 25K and longer. Each loop has about 1100 feet of elevation gain and loss. Surface composition is roughly 75% single-track, 12% wider equestrian trails, under 11% small gravel, and 2% road. Trail surfaces are moderately packed with roots, rocks, pine straw, and occasional wet sections depending on weather. The route also includes rolling red-clay hills and a ravine section.
Aid and support include an aid station at the start and finish area and two on-course aid stations, one of which is accessed twice. Drop bags are available at the aid stations located at approximately mile 9 and mile 14.
Pacers are permitted with organizer permission; they must register as pacers and sign a waiver and are allowed after a participant completes two laps. Free camping is available at the park with fire pit rules and cleanup requested. Some RV pads are available under boondocking rules; requests for RV camping should be made by November 1, 2026.
A Chimp Haven tour is planned, limited to 25 participants, lasts about 2 to 3 hours, and has a $75 fee that is refundable if canceled due to weather. Each race distance receives a medal; distances 50K and above receive additional items, and the 100K and 100 miler receive a custom buckle.
