Scrabo Hill Race
Scrabo Hill Race is a NIMRA Championship short distance event to be held on 20 August 2026 at Scrabo Country Park, Upper Car Park, Newtownards. The race is organised by Ballydrain Harriers & Athletic Club and has a 120 entry limit. Minimum age to enter is 15.
The course is 6.35 km (3.95 miles) with approximately 280 m (918 ft) of ascent. Runners complete two laps of a figure of eight around Killynether Wood and adjacent forest trails. The route follows singletrack and forest trails and includes short steep ascents, narrow paths, steps, and areas with tree roots and rocks. The course will be way marked with sawdust and tape and there will be a dibber point at the start and finish.
Entry fees on the event page are listed as Seniors £12 affiliated / £14 unaffiliated, and Under 18s / 65+ £8 affiliated / £10 unaffiliated. Age category is determined by age on the day and separate male and female categories include senior, under 18, and veteran classes (for example MV40 and FV40 brackets and above).
There is no mandatory kit list, though a rain jacket is recommended in poor weather. Marshalls will be positioned at major junctions and crossing points. Retiring runners should report to the nearest marshall post where possible and then to race organisers at the finish. For safety reasons no headphones or running poles are permitted. Event guidance requests that participants avoid handshakes and close contact, cover coughs and sneezes, and not take part if they have Covid symptoms.
