The course begins with about 4 miles flat, then features five hills over the next 5 miles, and finishes with a downhill and flat final 4 miles. The Marathon is two loops of the same route. About one third of the course runs along Long Island Sound. Aid stations are placed every 2 miles beginning at mile 2.5 and are stocked with Poland Spring Water and Gatorade Endurance. Porta-lets are located at miles 4.5, 6.55, 13.1, 17.6, and 21.5.
Amenities include short sleeve tech shirts for entrants, custom finisher medals with a choice of two designs, finish-line Poland Spring Water, Gatorade Endurance, fresh bagels and bananas, live/text/email results, and free downloadable race photos and finisher certificates.
Awards are custom pint pilsner glass trophies for top 3 men and women overall and top 3 in each age group (10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+). Anyone who drops down from the Marathon to the Half is not eligible for awards. Awards are available immediately at the awards table; there is no formal ceremony.
The Half Marathon has a 4 hour 30 minute cutoff (about 20 minutes per mile). The Marathon has a 6 hour 30 minute cutoff; the second loop closes before the overall marathon cutoff so Marathon entrants who do not start the second loop by that cutoff will be recorded as Half Marathon finishers. Early starts are permitted only for Marathon runners planning a 5:30 to 6:30 finish range and are subject to organizer rules.
Race-day bib and shirt pickup is available at the venue; bib numbers must be known to pick up a bib. The organizers hold parking permits for the venue lot and nearby beach lots. The West Haven train station is about 1.5 miles from the venue. Nearby hotel options are listed within a few miles of the start area.
