Event Overview
The Savin Rock Marathon & Half Marathon is scheduled for March 28, 2026. The event is organized by the Shoreline Sharks and is noted as the Road Runners Club of America's Connecticut State Championship Marathon for that year.
Distances and Course
The event offers two distances:
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
The course is a USATF-certified Boston Marathon qualifier. It is described as challenging and hilly, featuring five hills over a five-mile section. Approximately one-third of the route runs along Long Island Sound. The race consists of a single loop for the half marathon, with marathoners completing the loop twice. Aid stations are provided every two miles, stocked with Poland Spring Water and Gatorade Endurance.
Time Limits and Starts
The event has strict cutoff times. The half marathon cutoff is 4 hours and 30 minutes (a 20-minute per mile pace). The marathon cutoff is 6 hours and 30 minutes, with a second-loop closure at 10:40 AM. Marathon runners must start their second loop by this time or become official half marathon finishers.
An early start at 7:30 AM is organized for marathon runners who plan to finish between 5:30 and 6:30 hours. Starting early and finishing faster than approximately 5:15 hours can result in disqualification.
Venue and Logistics
The event starts and finishes at the Savin Rock Conference Center located at 6 Rock St., West Haven, CT. Bib and shirt pickup opens at 6:15 AM. The marathon and half marathon officially start at 8:00 AM. Parking is available at the beach lots and at a nearby location called Jimmie's. The West Haven Train Station is approximately 1.5 miles from the venue.
Registration and Amenities
Registration fees increase after March 1, 2026, and online registration closes on March 25. No deferrals or transfers are permitted, and all fees are non-refundable.
All entrants receive a short-sleeve technical t-shirt. All finishers receive a custom finisher medal with a choice of two designs. Post-race amenities include Poland Spring Water, Gatorade Endurance, fresh bagels, and bananas at the finish line. Awards are custom pint pilsner glasses given to the top three overall male and female finishers and the top three in various age groups. Results and free downloadable race photos are provided.
