Savin Rock Marathon & Half Marathon
The Savin Rock event in West Haven, Connecticut, offers a USATF certified Half Marathon (one loop) and a Marathon (two loops, 26.2 miles) that serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier. The course begins with about 4 miles flat, then includes five hills over the next 5 miles, and finishes with a downhill and flat final segment. About one third of the route runs along Long Island Sound. Some roads are partially closed; most intersections will have police or volunteers.
Aid stations are placed at roughly 2 mile intervals beginning at Mile 2.5 and are stocked with Poland Spring Water and Gatorade Endurance. Porto-Lets are available at Miles 4.5, 6.55, 13.1, 17.6, and 21.5. Timing uses transponder chips with split times at Miles 6.55, 13.1, 19.65, and 26.2.
Entrants receive men's and women's cut short sleeve tech shirts and custom finisher medals with a choice of two designs. Finishers have access to Poland Spring Water, Gatorade Endurance, bagels, and bananas. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and in five-year age divisions from 15 to 80 plus; awards are available at the awards table and are not shipped.
A Drop Down Guarantee allows a Marathon entrant to be recorded as an official Half Marathon finisher if they stop before or during the second loop; such finishers are not eligible for awards. Bibs and shirts are available only during race-day registration and are not held or shipped.
