Course and logistics
The half course begins with about 4 miles flat, includes 5 hills over the next 5 miles, and finishes with a downhill and flat final 4 miles; the Marathon repeats the loop. About one-third of the course runs along Long Island Sound. Some roads will be partially closed with police at intersections.
Aid stations are placed every 2 miles beginning at mile 2.5 and are stocked with water and Gatorade Endurance. Portable toilets are located at miles 4.5, 6.55, 13.1, 17.6, and 21.5. Timing uses transponder chips with splits at 6.55, 13.1, 19.65, and 26.2 miles. Time cutoffs are stated for the Half Marathon (4:30) and Marathon (6:30); an official early start option is available for marathoners targeting a 5:30 to 6:30 finish range.
The venue is the Savin Rock Conference Center, 6 Rock St., West Haven, CT 06516. Finishers receive water, Gatorade Endurance, bagels, and bananas. Awards are distributed immediately at the awards table, based on gun time, to the top three overall men and women and in five-year age divisions from 10-15 through 80+. Marathon participants may opt to stop after one loop and receive an official half-marathon finish time; those who drop down are not eligible for awards.
