Save Your Breath 5K - Augusta, ME
The Save Your Breath 5K is a fundraising event on October 18, 2026, at the Kennebec Valley YMCA, 31 Union Street, Augusta, ME. The event offers live chip-timed runs and walks, virtual 5K options to be completed at participants' chosen locations, and a new timed walk division with official bibs for walkers who wish to be timed. Live events may be converted to virtual your-race/your-place if public-health conditions require.
The course is a relatively flat out-and-back 5K along the rail trail, stretching from the Y toward the Adirondack chairs in Hallowell. Music will be played at the start and finish area. All participants receive a finisher's medal. Event t-shirts are ordered on September 18; registrants after that date will not receive a tee shirt.
Following the race, an award ceremony and a silent auction will be held at the YMCA once participants have returned to the gym; award winners must be present to claim prizes. Standard registration fees are shown for the events, with a typical fee of $40 and a student registration fee of $25. Discount codes and fundraising incentives are available; one fundraising option offers free registration after raising $150 prior to registering. Online donations carry a 4% processing fee through the event platform, and the organizing foundation covers race processing fees so more funds support its programs.
Proceeds support Free ME from Lung Cancer by funding research, expanding access to low-dose CT screening for uninsured high-risk patients, providing radon abatement systems for low-income homeowners, offering transportation to medical care, and delivering patient support services.
