Indoor Insanity 5K : event overview
Indoor Insanity 5K takes place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Harold Alfond Athletics & Recreation Center, Colby College in Waterville, Maine. The event is held indoors and includes a full 5K and a half-mile Kids Fun Run. It is a fundraiser to prevent lung cancer by funding radon mitigations in low-income Maine households. The organizers state that 100% of registration fees and participant fundraising/donations go toward fixing radon problems. The stated fundraising goal for 2026 is $7,500, which the event estimates could fund mitigation in up to five homes.
Format and logistics
Participants choose heats based on average running pace: Heat 1 for the fastest runners (approx. 15–20 minute 5K; field limited to 30), Heat 2 for intermediate runners (approx. 20–27 minute 5K; field limited to 75), and Heat 3 for slower or mixed paces (27 minutes and above). Walkers have two dedicated lanes and start with the first heat. The race is professionally chip-timed to provide individual lap and finish times. Hand tally counters will be available; participants are advised not to rely solely on chip timing for in-heat lap counts. Race shirts are available for purchase for those registered by December 22, 2025, with limited quantities on race day. Registration deadlines fall in early January 2026 and vary by event.
