Event Overview
The Rocky at 50 Run is a themed event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of the film Rocky. Taking place in Staines-upon-Thames, the event is held along a scenic stretch of the River Thames. The course primarily consists of well-maintained paths and tarmac with a very short section of grass, making road shoes suitable for the terrain. The route is fully signed and does not require navigational experience.
Distance and Format
This event is organized as a 7-hour time challenge. Participants have full control over their distance by completing as many or as few laps as they choose within the time limit. A single lap is approximately 7 km (4.37 miles), though this may change to a 5.28 km (3.28 mile) loop based on course conditions. Minimum participation is 3 km, and specific turn points are available for 5 km distances. The available distance options include:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (3 laps)
- Marathon (6 laps)
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)
Amenities and Facilities
An aid table is located at the start and finish of each lap, offering a selection of savoury, sweet, fruit, cheese, and vegan items. Every finisher receives a themed medal and a goody bag, with a specific vegan version available. Runners completing a half marathon or further are eligible for additional distance pins.
The venue, The Last Hop, provides toilet facilities that can be used for changing, although there are no dedicated showers. A non-secure bag drop area is available at the start and finish point.
