The Dashing Dog Charity Run - North
The Dashing Dog Charity Run - North is a trail running event held along the River Wear in Durham. The course provides views of the local Cathedral and follows a fully signed route on public footpaths. This event is organized as a 7 hour Time Challenge, meaning participants have a fixed time limit to complete as many or as few laps as they choose.
A single lap is approximately 7 km (4.37 miles), though this may be adjusted to a 5.28 km (3.28 mile) loop depending on the ground conditions on the day. Participants must complete at least 3 km to be considered an official finisher. Specific turn points are placed at 3 km and 5 km to accommodate younger runners and UK Athletics distance regulations. Available distances based on lap counts include:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon
- Marathon
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon
The event raises funds for local dog rehoming centres through entry fees and optional donations. The race headquarters at the Durham Amateur Rowing Club provides toilets and changing facilities. An aid station at the start and finish of each lap offers water and a variety of sweet and savoury snacks, including vegan options. All finishers receive a themed medal and a goody bag. Pay and display parking is available in the city centre and surrounding streets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
