Event Overview

The Dashing Dog Charity Run - North is a running event organized by Saturn Running along the River Wear near Durham. The event aims to raise funds for local dog rehoming centers. A £2.00 surcharge is added to every race entry, with 100% of this amount going to the charities. There is also an optional £3.00 donation add-on for which participants receive a 'Doggie' pin to attach to their medal ribbon; this donation is matched by Saturn Running. An additional 10% of the event's profits are also donated.

Course & Format

This is a 7-hour Time Challenge event where participants can choose their own distance by running multiple laps within the time limit. The course is a trail run along a stretch of the River Wear with views of Durham Cathedral. It is fully signed. The standard lap distance is approximately 4.37 miles (7 km), but this is subject to change. Shorter turn-back points for 3 km and 5 km distances are available within the lap to accommodate younger runners and UK Athletics age-distance rules.

Distances

Participants can run any distance they wish, with a minimum of 3 km required to be an official finisher. Common distance benchmarks include:

  • Half Marathon: 3 laps
  • Marathon: 6 laps
  • Ultra Marathon: 7+ laps
  • 50 km is also an available distance option

Participant Information

All finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a dog-themed medal. Additional distance pins (Half-Marathon, Mega-Half, Marathon, 50km, Ultra) are available for those who run a half-marathon distance or more. All finishers receive a goody bag, with a vegan option available upon request.

An aid station at the start/finish area provides a selection of drinks, crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies, and vegan snacks. Toilets and changing facilities are available at the race HQ (Durham Amateur Rowing Club). A self-service bag drop area is provided, but it is not staffed or secure.
