Quayside 5k and Junior Races
The Quayside 5k (Spring) is a riverside race night held on the Newcastle Quayside, organized in partnership with Wallsend Harriers & AC. The event takes place on a flat, World Athletics measured course along the River Tyne. The route passes several local landmarks, including the Swing Bridge, High Level Bridge, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, King Edward VII Bridge, and Redheugh Bridge. Participants cross the Gateshead Millennium Bridge to reach the finish line at Baltic Square.
The event features several race distances:
- 5 km (Standard and elite A-Race for sub 20-minute runners)
- 3 km (Junior race for u14 and u16)
- 1 km (Kids race for u10 and u12)
This event serves as the NECAA Championships and hosts the Wallsend Harriers Terry O'Gara Trophy. The course is chip-timed, and each kilometre is marked with distance flags. Marshals are positioned along the route to provide guidance to all runners.
Participants receive a themed medal, free race photos, and post-race goodies at the finish line. The event village includes various food and drink options. Official event t-shirts are available as an optional purchase during the registration process. The course and event infrastructure are designed with a focus on sustainability and professional race organization. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
