The course is flat and World Athletics measured. It follows the Quayside path with views of the River Tyne and passes a sequence of bridges, including the Swing Bridge, High Level Bridge, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, King Edward VII Bridge, and Redheugh Bridge. The route crosses the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and finishes in Baltic Square with the city skyline as a backdrop.

Entries include a themed medal, free race photos, chip-timed results, and post-race goodies. Each kilometre is marked with distance flags and marshals are positioned along the course to guide and support participants.
