Event Overview
The Childrens St Davids Day Dragon Run takes place at Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare. This event commemorates St David, the patron saint of Wales, and is designed as a family-friendly running activity. The routes are set within the country park, offering participants views of the surrounding countryside while using well-maintained footpaths.
Participants can choose between two primary distances, which are organized to remain within UK Athletics distance limits for younger runners:
- 2.5 km (one lap)
- 5 km (two laps)
Course and Participation
The course consists of a 2.5 km lap on established paths. While the route is typically set on these footpaths, it remains subject to change based on weather conditions. As the event is held on public footpaths, runners share the space with other path users. Completion of at least one lap qualifies the participant as an official finisher, and all finishers receive a themed medal.
Facilities and Logistics
The venue provides several amenities for participants, including on-site toilets and free car parking. A designated area is available at the start and finish line for bag storage; however, this area is not secure and runners are advised not to leave valuable items.
Water is available for refilling bottles, but participants must bring their own drinks containers. Regarding equipment, the use of bone-conducting headphones is permitted, but other types of headphones are not allowed. Race numbers are collected on the day of the event at the registration desk.
