OTT Ultra Marathon Overview
The OTT Ultra Marathon is a 30-mile trail running event located in the Brecon Beacons. The course features an elevation gain of 3750ft (1143m) and follows a mix of technical trails and forestry tracks. The event is limited to 200 entries and is open to both affiliated and non-affiliated runners.
Course Details
The route begins at the Georgetown Boys & Girls Club in Merthyr Tydfil. From the start, runners join the Taff Trail before transitioning to trails alongside the River Taff heading north toward the Beacons Reservoir. After crossing the A470, the path climbs to the summit of Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales at 886 meters. Following the summit, participants descend via Jacobs ladder to the Roman Road toward Torpantau. The final stages of the race pass the Dolygaer and Pontsticill Reservoirs and lead through the Taff Fechan Nature Reserve back to Georgetown.
Race Support and Requirements
This is a cup-less race, and participants are required to provide their own drinking vessels. There are five checkpoints located along the route:
- Cwm Cadlen Road crossing (6 miles): Water and food available.
- Pont yr Daf car park (13 miles): Water and food available.
- Pen Y Fan summit: Check-in and check-out only.
- Torpantau Train Station (19.5 miles): Water and food available. This location has a cut-off time of 6 hours after the start.
- Ffynnondwyn (26 miles): Water and food available.
Participants must carry mandatory kit including a mobile phone, at least one litre of hydration, a foil blanket or bivi bag, 400 calories of emergency rations, a first aid kit, a torch, a whistle, a waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, and warm layers including a hat and gloves.
