About the race
OTT Ultra Marathon is a 30-mile trail race through the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. Based around Merthyr Tydfil, the course begins near Cyfarthfa Castle and follows the Taff Trail before diverging onto riverside trails toward the Beacons Reservoir. The route climbs to Pen y Fan, the region’s highest peak at 886 meters, then descends Jacobs Ladder to the Roman Road toward Torpantau.
It continues along forestry tracks by Dolygaer and Pontsticill Reservoir, returning to the Taf Fechan Nature Reserve and finishing at Cyfarthfa Castle. With about 3,750 ft of ascent, the marked route features five checkpoints, four with water and food, a 20-mile cut-off, and cup-less, chip-timed racing for experienced ultra runners.
