Saranac Lake Backcountry 3P
Saranac Lake Backcountry 3P takes place Saturday October 17, 2026. The event is a backcountry multi discipline course through the Saranac Lake Wild Forest that combines biking, paddling, and hiking or trail running. Participants are expected to be self sufficient and able to complete the course without outside assistance. The event follows Leave No Trace ethics.
The full course is approximately 27 miles of timed segments plus a neutral, untimed 2 mile start and 2 mile neutral finish for a total of about 31 miles. The event begins and ends with neutral segments on the Adirondack Rail Trail from Charlie's Inn to just past Conley Road. Participants are released in waves and race time starts and ends at the official start/finish line.
Segments for solo participants are:
- Pedal: Bike 10 miles from Conley Road to Boy Scout entrance; bikes parked there.
- Peak: Run or hike 3 miles to Floodwood Mountain peak and back.
- Pedal: Bike 3 miles back to Floodwood Outpost.
- Paddle: Paddle 4 miles on Rollins Pond including circling islands.
- Pedal: Bike 8 miles along Adirondack Rail Trail to start/finish line.
Paddling includes downstream and upstream sections using the portage between Floodwood and Rollins Ponds. Teams of three may allocate the three disciplines among team members. All registered participants receive a meal after the race. SaranacLake3P, Inc. is a locally based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that oversees and produces the event.
